Supplies

Below are supplies for both painting and drawing classes. This list is the bare minimum and covers your needs for most classes, though additions may be needed to supplement based on a particular project and will be specified by the instructor prior to a class. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out.

Painting Supplies

Palette - wooden rectangular palette - 11x14 or larger. Must be stained a dark neutral brown and SEALED. NO palette paper. Glass is acceptable.

Brushes - 2 of each of the following: Bristle Filberts sizes #4,#3,#2,#1

Palette Knife

Rags - Viva paper towels recommended

Solvent - Odorless Mineral Spirits in a SEALED jar

Medium - 1 part stand oil to 2 parts solvent

Form Painting Figure Palette:

  • Lead White (flake, cremnitz etc)

  • Burnt Umber

  • Burnt Sienna

  • Alizarin Crimson

  • Cadmium Red

  • Cadmium Orange

  • Raw Sienna

  • Cadmium Yellow

  • Raw Umber

  • Viridian

  • Ivory Black

Drawing Supplies

Drawing board - must be large enough to fit a standard sheet of 18x24 for graphite drawing or 19x25 for charcoal. I recommend getting a piece of masonite cut at Home Depot 19x25, or 20x26 to allow for a 1/2 inch border around the sheet of paper.

Clips - 4 bull dog clips to secure paper to board, OR masking Tape.

Kneadable Eraser

Hard Gum Eraser

Blending Stumps: NOT the rolled tortillion. get a variety of sizes

Rag - an old cotton rag t shirt cut up into small hand sized squares.

Knitting Needle - for measurment. The longer and narrower the better. a bicycle spoke also works.

Paper: Canson Mi-Teintes, “Moonstone” or “Pearl Gray” for charcoal, Strathmore 400 series for graphite

Charcoal: Vine charcoal in soft, medium, and hard. Generals charcoal pencils in soft and hard

Graphite: 2 of the following: 4H, 2H, H, HB, 2B
